2025 WTC Series Results Recap

WTCricket third cycle of the World Test Championship ended with a momentous occasion. South Africa reached the final for the first time, and beat Australia at Lord’s to win their first ICC title in 27 years. The match was a brilliantly played final with Aiden Markram’s innings of the tournament being one of the best of all time, but it wasn’t just his bat that made the difference.

When he walked back into the South African dressing room after his dazzling performance, he was greeted with a sense of dignified quietness that’s so rare in this age of curated celebrations. It was the moment that will define Bavuma’s captaincy and cement his place in history.

With the victory, the Proteas are back to the top of the Test rankings. But there are a lot of questions ahead of them as they look to consolidate their position.

On the other hand, Australia’s batting faltered once again and they were unable to keep up with the Proteas in terms of runs. The likes of Steve Smith and Matt Kuhnemann did not perform to the standards that they would be expected.

The Blackcaps will need to improve their batting if they are going to get back into the WTC final next year. However, they will be glad that they could put a disappointing series in India behind them with a strong performance at home. They will also want to avoid the pitfalls of the previous cycle, when four losses in seven games scuppered their chances.
